Jasprit Bumrah, the renowned Indian pacer, made a triumphant return to cricket after a prolonged injury break. As he donned the Indian jersey once more during the Asia Cup, a former cricketer has offered sage advice to preserve his cricketing career.
Chaminda Vyas, a cricketing veteran, believes that bowlers like Bumrah, with their unique bowling actions, are more susceptible to injuries. He emphasizes the need for measures to extend Bumrah’s career. Vyas suggests that team management, including the captain and coach, should strategically limit Bumrah’s participation in various cricket formats.
During a recent media interaction, Vyas expressed, “A bowler like Bumrah has a distinct bowling action, setting him apart from others. India bears the responsibility to safeguard him. It’s crucial that he doesn’t play in all formats. The cricket board must determine the most suitable format and prepare him accordingly.”
Vyas extended a similar piece of advice to the Sri Lankan cricket board, specifically regarding Mathisha Pathirana, a young talent at just 20 years old. Vyas stressed the importance of managing Pathirana’s workload, ensuring he doesn’t feature in every match to protect his physical well-being.
In the coming days, India is set to participate in the World Cup on home soil, a tournament that might mark the swan song for stalwarts like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Vyas is optimistic that these two seasoned cricketers will shine in their final World Cup appearance.
He stated, “We are all well aware of Virat’s exceptional cricketing abilities; he has consistently performed at the highest level for the past decade. Rohit is equally committed to giving his all for the country. Fans have high expectations of both players in every match. Hopefully, the World Cup will witness their best performances, leading India to success.”
