Adipurush, the latest Indian film starring Prabhas, is facing strong opposition and has been banned in Kathmandu, following the objections raised by the Chief Priest of Ayodhya Rama Janma Bhumi and others.
Adipurush, a pan-India 3D movie released on the 16th, has garnered global attention. With a budget of around 600 crores, the film is based on the Ramayana, featuring Prabhas as Rama, Saif Ali Khan as Ravana, and Keerthy Sanon as Sita.
Received Lots of Negative Reviews
Despite the hype surrounding the film and the anticipation among fans, Adipurush received trolls. While some praised the background music and certain scenes, many fans criticized the graphics, considering them to be more like cartoon graphics.
Adipurush Movie Box Office Collection
Adipurush has performed relatively well in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and some northern states where Prabhas has a significant following. However, in Tamil Nadu, most theaters that screened Adipurush reported low occupancy. Nonetheless, the film’s team officially announced a collection of Rs 300 crore within three days of its release.
Controversial Elements of Adipurush Movie
Certain lines in the movie, such as Hanuman’s speech about Ravana and the depiction of Sita as Bharat’s daughter, have sparked controversy. Nepal strongly condemned the portrayal of Sita in particular. The film’s team recently announced their decision to alter Hanuman’s dialogue about Ravana.
Adipurush Ban in Kathmandu
As a consequence, Adipurush has been banned in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Furthermore, the screening of other Indian films has been halted as well. A senior official from the Kathmandu Municipal Corporation expressed concerns, stating, “Screening the film without removing the specific dialogue (related to Sita) will lead to irreparable damage.”
Continuing Controversy as well in India
Similar opposition against Adipurush has emerged in India. Acharya Satyendra Das, the chief priest of Ayodhya Ramjanma Bhoomi, along with Ayodhya saint Maniram Das, Hanuman Karhi temple priest Raju Das, and others have demanded a ban on the movie. Meanwhile, a Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking a ban on the film.
