Actress Rittika Sen, known for her roles in movies, shares her thoughts on her sudden venture into web series. Initially hesitant, she eventually developed a strong desire to explore this medium, but struggled to find the right character. However, the wait was worth it.
In the upcoming thriller series, “Abhishapta,” Rittika portrays the character Aparna. The story revolves around her marriage and the strange incidents that unfold when her husband, played by Gouravada Chattopadhyay, visits his in-laws. Rittika praises director Abhimanyu Mukhopadhyay’s adaptation of the story and hopes the audience will enjoy it.
When asked about her absence from Bengali films, Rittika explains that various factors contribute to it. On one hand, she desired to work on a web series, but she also faced a lack of appealing movie offers. Moreover, she feels uncertain about how the audience will respond to Bengali films at present, as it requires a reliable production company she can trust.
Rittika has been actively involved in the southern film industry, not solely for the remuneration but also for the opportunity to learn and reach a broader audience. However, there have been rumors that her involvement in southern films is due to the decreasing number of job opportunities in Bengal, to which she clarifies that she represents Bengal in the south and takes pride in her Bengali identity.
Although the work itself is similar in both industries, Rittika acknowledges a notable difference. In recent times, Tollygunge (Bengali film industry) has witnessed a decrease in credible producers, leading to unprofessionalism. Such experiences have been absent in the southern industry.
As a current BBA student, Rittika acknowledges the challenge of balancing studies and acting. Her mother’s encouragement and supportive teachers have played a crucial role in her pursuit of both. However, she faced some isolation in college due to her acting profession, with some students hesitating to interact with her while others sought selfies on the first day.
Reflecting on her early entry into the industry, Rittika shares her struggles, such as changing schools and dealing with depression. There were even instances where her age was falsely changed online, which created difficulties during exams. However, these challenges have shaped her mentally.
Regarding her performance in the film ‘Arshinagar,’ many anticipated her transition into a different genre. However, the opportunity did not present itself at the time. As she has grown older, Rittika remains hopeful that good offers will come her way in the future.
Rittika gained significant recognition through the film ‘Barbaad,’ and she now realizes the impact it had on people. Couples have shared stories of falling in love after watching the film, and some even watched it multiple times in theaters. She cherishes the memories and the audience’s enthusiasm for commercial films a decade ago, which she believes may be fading in the current era.
When asked about future projects, Rittika reveals that she has a Bengali film set to release soon, along with two upcoming southern films. One of these films features Mallika Sherawat as her co-star.
